After helping Martin Scorsese to his first ever Oscar with the script for The Departed, writer William Monahan is sticking with the crime milieu for his own stint behind the camera, adapting Ken Bruen’s novel London Boulevard with Keira Knightley, Colin Farrell and Ray Winstone in the lead roles. And now the trailer has arrived online.
Boulevard follows Mitchell (Farrell), a criminal newly out of the slammer looking to set his life on the right path. He gets an opportunity when reclusive film star Charlotte (Knightley) asks him to be her bodyguard.
But while Mitchell agrees, and slowly starts to fall for Charlotte, his dark past catches up with him in the shape of Gant (Winstone), a gangland leader who has old scores to settle and makes it his mission to see our hero dragged back down into the muck. And Mitchell’s own temper won’t help him either.
With the likes of Anna Friel, David Thewlis (we’re already hoping for a Thewlis-off at the premiere between Empire’s own Chris Hewitt and the original), Eddie Marsan, Jamie Campbell-Bower, Stephen Graham and Ben Chaplin in the cast, this looks to be a compelling London gangster tale. Take a look at the trailer below and let us know your thoughts.
