Given that it took years for the stories to actually hit the screens, the fact that Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez' comicbook franchise Locke & Key arrived on Netflix at all is a minor miracle. And now the good luck streak continues, as the show will be back for season 2.
With Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill running the adaptation, Locke And Key finds siblings Tyler (Connor Jessup), Kinsey (Emilia Jones) and Bode (Jackson Robert Scott), who move to their ancestral home in Massachusetts after the gruesome murder of their father. There, they find the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers and abilities. Little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them.
"We are thrilled to be continuing the journey of Locke & Key alongside all of our amazing collaborators," said Cuse and Averill in a statement picked up by Variety. "We are grateful to Netflix for all their support, especially at this difficult time, and look forward to bringing you the exciting next chapter of our story."
Of course, given the Coronavirus situation, the question will be when the show can actually shoot. If it keeps to current series' guidelines, the writers can convene over video chat and bash out the scripts at least. Season 1 launched in February this year – fingers crossed the second run can do the same in 2021.
