**Update: **Confirming the casting, the first teaser trailer has arrived. Take a look below...
We’ve been hearing about plans by co-writers Michael Showalter and David Wain to revisit their cult comedy Wet Hot American Summer for years now. It’s been through various attempts on the big screen, but the pair finally seem to have found success at Netflix, which has now commissioned an eight-episode prequel series, featuring much of the original cast.
Wain and Showalter first birthed the thing back in 2001, where it arrived in cinemas to crickets and little critical support. But once it hit DVD, it took off, and finally found the success it deserved.
Set in 1981 at Camp Firewood, the film takes place on the last day before the various campers are due to head back to their parents. But for the staff and teens who work at the place, there’s still plenty of unfinished business to deal with, including love both requited and unrequited, the talent show and the small matter of a chunk of Skylab falling to Earth that might just hit them...
It's true, camp is back in session. [#WetHotAmericanSummer](https://twitter.com/hashtag/WetHotAmericanSummer?src=hash) will return for 8 all new episodes. Even with the project’s cult status, a return engagement was no sure thing, but it doesn’t help that almost all of the actors involved have gone on to become big names, including Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, H. Jon Benjamin, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, Nina Hellman, Ken Marino, Zak Orth, David Hyde Pierce, Joe Lo Truglio, Christopher Meloni, A.D. Miles, Marguerite Moreau, Marisa Ryan, Molly Shannon, Showalter and Kevin Sussman.
With Wain back directing again, the series kicked off shooting last week, so fans can expect it either later this year or early next.
