It's only a couple of days since we were last talking about Ti West's The Side Effect, but in that short meantime it's scored a star. Deadline reports that Liv Tyler has come aboard for what sounds like an almost one-woman show, and with her casting comes some more story information.
Tyler will play Catherine Rigby, an experimental test-subject for a pharmaceutical company, quarantined entirely alone in space for months, but suddenly finding herself inexpicably pregnant. Cue paranoia and hysteria and WTF.
"Ti is a a super-talented exciting young filmmaker, Rigby is a fantastic character within a great thriller, and I am looking forward to sinking my teeth into the part,” Tyler gushed.
"It is still somewhat of a horror film," says West, "but it is much more psychological than any of my previous efforts. It was essential that I find an actress who could portray a wide range of emotion and always earn the audience’s sympathy no matter what the situation. As soon as I sat down with Liv, it was obvious she was the one.”
The Side Effect will be produced by Double Hope Films, who were also behind West's House Of The Devil and The Innkeepers. They'll be shopping the project around at the European Film Market next month.
