Welcome to another round of “indie crime movie digs up one of the most well-worn plots and tries to put a new spin on it”, as Ray Liotta, Christian Slater and Ving Rhames have all signed on to The River Sorrow.
While the film sounds like three men who go on a cruise down a slightly depressing waterway (think Three Men in a Boat meets Lars von Trier), it’s actually a tale of a detective (Liotta) who pushes his family life aside to hunt down a serial killer.
As for the spin? Well, we’ll have to wait and see on that front, but Rhames (who presumably will be finding the time for this during his off-days on the next Mission: Impossible movie) is Liotta’s captain and the one man he confides in, while Slater has locked in a deal to play an FBI agent who is assigned to oversee the case.
Rich Cowan is behind the camera, working from a script by Steve Anderson, and the movie gets underway next week in Washington.
