Lionsgate Puts Baby In The Corner Again

Having found the news out from the tiniest of sources Twitter, it seems that Lionsgate is keen to do to Dirty Dancing what Kenny Ortega is currently doing to Footloose.

They are developing the film from a script by Uptown Girls' Julia Dahl - apparently no relation to fantastical children's writer Roald or doe eyed model Sophie.

Messing with the 1987 film's standard is dangerous territory, as it threatens a legion of devoted female fans who had the time of their lives with the movie, with the feeling of old age. The film has been such a sweeping success throughout the 22 years since it's release. Set in a '60s holiday camp, it glamourised the retro look and propelled snake hipped leading man Patrick Swayze to new heights of fame as dance teacher Johnny Castle and left leading lady Jennifer Grey to never quite escape the ghost of Frances 'Baby' Houseman.

Following the lacking performance of 2004's Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights, it is a surprise that Lionsgate is keen to revisit the property, but is should promise a whole new army of dancing fans to join the conga line.

So who should play Johnny and Baby? Disney moppets Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale? Or more mature 'street' candidates Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan? Decisions, decisions.
