The remake of 1964’s The Incredible Mr Limpet is one of those projects that keep bobbing to the surface of the great Hollywood development ocean once every few years. The latest iteration is one of the most unlikely, though, with word from the LA Times that Richard Linklater is considering directing it.
Linklater’s not exactly the first name that swims to mind when you think about a comedy featuring a man who turns into a fish. But then, that’s probably what he wants you to think. And he did some odd things with actors in **Waking Life **and A Scanner Darkly.
Yet while according to the Times’ story, Linklater has taken meetings with rights holders Warner Bros. about the idea, nothing official is in place yet. If he did nab the job, he’d be taking over from _Enchanted**’s Kevin Lima, who became attached in 200_9 but has since left the position.
The original starred Don Knotts as a regular man who is transformed into a fish and, um, fights Nazis. Because, of course. Acting-wise, the lead has attracted many a comedy type over the years with Robin Williams, Jim Carrey and, more recently, Zach Galifianakis considering taking a dip.
Though the story has apparently been updated from its World War Two beginnings, we’re going to take a wait and see on this one, since chances are it could float along for a few years more…
