Representing director Josh Trank's attempt to spring himself from director jail after Fantastic Four and his flame-out with the Star Wars universe, Al Capone biopic Fonzo has been slowly coming together in the last year and a half, with Tom Hardy still attached to star. Linda Cardellini, Matt Dillon and Kyle MacLachlan are all now joining him in the film.

Trank also wrote the script, which takes place at the end of Capone's life. After years spent as a ruthless mobster who ruled Chicago during the 1920s, he was finally prosecuted for tax evasion and sent to the slammer in 1931. Fonzo will find him suffering from dementia and close to death at the age of 47.

Cardellini is on to play Capone's long-suffering wife Mae, with Dillon as his closest friend, Johnny, and MacLachlan is appearing as his doctor, Karlock. In addition to the three main new recruits, Kathrine Naducci will be one of his sisters, Rosie.

Trank should finally have the cameras rolling next month in New Orleans.
