The Lincoln Lawyer Heads To TV

With The Lincoln Lawyer proving to be a success this year in cinemas, it’s somehow surprising that Lionsgate hasn’t shoved a sequel into development. But now it appears the studio may have other plans for the character of smooth-talking street lawyer Michael “Mickey” Haller, with US telly network ABC ordering a pilot for a show about the man’s legal dealings.

Played by Matthew McConaughey in the movie (we doubt he’d be up for a TV show and his schedule is filling up anyway), Haller conducts his criminal defence business from the back of his chauffeured Lincoln town car. A charming type, he’s known to bend the rules for his clients when necessary and usually finds a way to win the case.

Originating in Michael Connelly’s novels (Mickey appears in five of the man’s books), Haller has plenty of material to launch a TV series. But for now, ABC is only ordering a script.

Still, Connelly and Lawyer scriptwriter John Romano are in charge of co-creating that first pilot screenplay, so we’re hopeful it could be something good. And if it makes it to series, it’ll be the second legal movie making the jump to the small screen as NBC is bringing The Firm to the goggle box some time next year…
