Repeat it slowly after me: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Potato Peel Pie. Potato. Peel. Pie. Society. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Whatever it’s called, Mike Newell’s new film has a first trailer, showing off a best-of-British cast.
The period drama stars Lily James as Juliet Ashton, a journalist who hopes to tell the story of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society — a book club whose love of fiction kept them going through the Nazi occupation of the channel islands. Upon visiting Guernsey, Juliet finds herself charmed by the locals, especially Dawsey Adams (Game of Thrones' Michiel Huisman), as she gains a deeper understanding of how the islanders survived the Nazi rule.
Starring alongside James and Huisman are the likes of Tom Courtenay, Penelope Wilton, Matthew Goode, Jessica Brown Findlay, and Katherine Parkinson. There’s still a couple of months to get your head around that title — The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society arrives in UK cinemas on 20 April.
