The trailer for the latest example of the Mismatched Couple-Com, this time crossbred with the Unexpected Child-com to create Life As We Know it, has arrived online and you can watch it below.
In the high concept pic, Katherine Heigl and Transformers’ Josh Duhamel play Holly and Eric, set up on a date by their married best friends. The night does not go well at all – he’s a player, she’s a control freak who likes to bake – and they swear they’ll never do it again.
But then tragedy strikes as their wedded friends (including **Mad Men's **Christina Hendricks in a small role) die unexpectedly, leaving their baby daughter behind, with instructions in their will to have – you guessed it – Holly and Eric care for the infant going forward.
Which leads to many poop jokes, baby diet jokes and squabbles between the mismatched pair who finally realise that maybe, just maybe, they don’t make such a bad team after all. And yes, all of that can be inferred from the trailer.
This one is directed by Greg Berlanti, who has done solid work on TV as a producer and is also one of the writers behind Green Lantern. We really hope that it pulls out something a little more interesting than the utterly generic beats that litter the trailer, but it always feels like this genre in particular needs to lay everything out on the table. And haven’t we already been through this story (minus the arguing couple bit) with Kate Hudson in 2004’s Raising Helen?
Oh, well… Find the trailer below and chip in with your thoughts. Does it look charming to you? Can the combination of Heigl/Duhamel chemistry win you over?
