Liev Schreiber will be putting his ice hockey skills to the test, playing Ross “The Boss” Reardon, a legendary (and legendarily tough) player in the indie comedy Goon.
He’s joining an ensemble led by Sean William Scott, who plays Doug Glatt, a bouncer who discovers he’s got something of a talent out on the ice – for both brawling and scoring. He joins a down-on-their luck team to help lift them to new heights.
Also in the cast are Jay Baruchel (who wrote the script with Superbad’s Evan Goldberg) playing Doug’s best pal, **Scott Pilgrim’**s Alison Pill as the love of his life, and Marc-Andre Grondin as a French-Canadian hockey type.
Baruchel and Goldberg penned the screenplay based on Doug Smith and Adam Frattasio’s book Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey, and It’s All Gone Pete Tong director Michael Dowse will blow the whistle on shooting starting next week in Manitoba, Canada.
