Liam Neeson and Neil Jordan have a long history of working together, on films such as Michael Collins, Breakfast On Pluto and High Spirits. They're getting the actor/director combo back together for The Trainer.

Neeson will be John Moore, a top horse trainer living in the west of Ireland who suffers a terrible tragedy that sees him lose everything he cares for. Retreating from his life and work, he's finally coaxed back out into the world by the powerhouse combo of a teenage refugee in need and a horse called Allabelle. Because he punches them both. No... Sorry, it's not a Neeson action movie. There will be healing that doesn't first involve a terrorist blackmailing a jockey, or something like that.

"Liam Neeson is one of the world’s most beloved actors, so we’re thrilled to have Liam return to Ireland with a character-driven film like The Trainer, HanWay Films' tells *Deadline. *“He and Neil are a great pairing and David Donohue’s, James Villemaire’s and Todd Komarnicki’s script provides us a beautiful and life-affirming story of a man learning to live again."

Jordan should be filming this one next summer. Neeson will next be heard rather than seen in A Monster Calls, out on 6 January.
