The Cannes Film Festival kicks off next month, which means we can expect to hear a lot of chatter about prospective movies that have their rights for sale at the festival's film market. One making an early pitch is new romantic drama Normal People, which will star Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville.
Good Vibrations directors Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn are back behind the camera for the story of long-married couple Joan and Tom, who have settled into a happily supportive relationship. When Joan is diagnosed with breast cancer, they'll need every fibre of their bond to face the challenges of a suddenly uncertain future.
Irish playwright Owen McCafferty wrote the script, and the cameras should be cranking this July in Belfast. Neeson's probably looking forward to a film where he doesn't have to punch someone, though we would welcome a scene where he goes toe to toe with a giant cancer cell.
