While we're used to seeing Liam Neeson in action mode these days, the versatile actor still dips into drama and even comedy when the mood strikes him. He's going for laughs in James D'Arcy's directorial debut Made In Italy.
And the film will be a family affair for Big Liam, since Micheál Richardson, Neeson's son and an actor in his own right will co-star.
Made In Italy, written by D'Arcy will sees Neeson as a bohemian artist living in London who has long been estranged from his son, Jack (Richardson, in what seems like smart casting). But they're forced to team up and head to Italy to sell off the house that he inherited from his late wife.
While D'Arcy had Bill Nighy and Jack Lowden previously attached to star, the vagaries of film scheduling mean that they're no longer involved. But he's looking to kick off shooting this coming April now that he has Neeson and Richardson attached.
Neeson has a few films on the way, including Widows (out 6 November), the Coens' The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs (16 November via Netflix) and revenge thriller/dark comedy Cold Pursuit, which will arrive in the UK on 22 February and recently released a trailer. Richardson has a role in Cold Pursuit and will also be seen in Vox Lux, which hasn't yet locked down a UK release date.
