The Watergate break-in and ensuing scandal in the 1970s continues to be a source of fascination for filmmakers, and another drama, exploring the man behind the Deep Throat source, is now bubbling away on the development stove. Liam Neeson and Diane Lane are preparing to play a married couple in Felt.

Writer/director Peter Landesman is behind this one, which explores the experiences of special agent Mark Felt (Neeson), the man who eventually revealed himself to be the mysterious source who helped Washington Post reports Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward (you might recall their story from All The President’s Men) investigate and eventually expose the dodgy goings on, with what they dug up eventually leading to the resignation of President Richard Nixon.

Don’t expect Neeson to be up to his action tricks in this one – while Felt’s actions were brave and dangerous, he wasn’t exactly known for throwing punches or driving cars headlong through cities. Lane, meanwhile, will be his ambitious, troubled wife Audrey, who helps him deal with his struggle against the White House.

Lane has Trumbo due to arrive on February 5, and will be back as Martha Kent in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice on March 25. Neeson most recently worked on Martin Scorsese’s Silence and Juan Antonio Bayona’s A Monster Calls, which finally lands in the UK on October 21 next year.
