The median age of the** Expendables 2** cast is about to come down by a few digits, as Liam Hemsworth has agreed to sign on to the movie.

Hemsworth – younger brother of Thor man Chris – already has one big ensemble film under his belt, as he’s just finished playing Gale Hawthorne in The Hunger Games.

For the Expendables sequel, he’ll be a sharpshooter who, we assume, will help Sly and co on their mission. But since details are scarce at this early stage, it’s always possible he’s a villain…

Stallone has recruited much of the first film’s cast plus some newcomers, with Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis all aboard. There’s still no official confirmation as to whether Nic Cage will sign on and with Hemsworth’s casting, you’ve got to figure Taylor Lautner will not now be involved. But there’s still time…

Simon West is behind the camera for this one and he’ll start things rolling next month. As for what will happen? Well, Stallone’s Barney Ross and co will be back kicking ass and we do know Van Damme’s a bad guy, so expect more banter and more boom as the old hands do what they do best…
