With Gary Ross having tracked down his three main, important Hunger Games leads in Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, he’s now busy filling the rest of the roles, with backers Lionsgate hitting the film’s Facebook page to start announcing the other characters in a cunning drip-feed fashion. So far, we know that Leven Rambin will be District 1’s Glimmer, with Jack Quaid as her fellow tribute Marvel.

Rambin is best known for a plethora of US TV work, including stints on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, One Tree Hill, Private Practice and CSI: Miami. The Hunger Games will mark her jump to the big screen. Quaid, meanwhile, has few credits to his name but does have one important qualification – he’s Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid’s boy.

Also joining the cast as tributes are the largely unknown Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg (Thresh and Rue, respectively).

But as well as the pack of newcomers, there’s a much more exciting name in the mix, with Elizabeth Banks now in talks to play Effie Trinket, a pink-coiffed media darling who becomes the handler of Lawrence’s Katniss. Banks has been a fan-favourite choice for a while now, so the thought of her actually jumping aboard is bound to please a lot of people…
