The LA Times' Hero Complex blog has a short piece on Matt Reeves and his upcoming Americanisation of **Let the Right One In.
It's to be renamed Let Me In, which is apparently a more faithful translation of John Ajvide Lindqvist's original title than the moniker of this year's Swedish adaptation, and is scheduled for release in the autumn of next year.
Reeves acknowledges the pitfalls of being at the helm of an American retooling of a foreign movie everybody loved, but he's keen to put all your doubts to rest. For example, he insists that the children won't be made older to jump on the Twilight bandwagon.
"There's this cynicism that I'll come in and trash it, when in fact I have nothing but respect for the film," Reeves opines. "I'm drawn to it for personal and not mercenary reasons. If I didn't feel a connection I wouldn't be doing it. I hope people give us a chance."
It's to be set in Colorado in the 1980s, and locations are currently being scouted. That snowy vibe is reminding us of Insomnia, which worked equally well in its American and Scandinavian incarnations. If Let Me In is even half that successful, it should be one to watch out for.
