Less Than Zero TV Adaptation In The Works

Less Than Zero (1987)

Movies being re-imagined as TV series has been happening for years, but with so many outlets for shows these days, the pace is becoming crazy. The latest to get the treatment is 1987's Less Than Zero.

To be clear, though, this will be an adaptation of the 1985 Bret Easton Ellis novel which gave life to the film as well as the cinematic version itself. That version starred Andrew McCarthy, Robert Downey Jr. (whatever happened to that guy?), Jami Gertz and James Spader in the story of a college freshman returning home to spend Christmas with his girlfriend, only to discover that his former best friend has dived deep into addiction issues.

Hulu's take has Tyrant writer/producer Craig Wright adapting the concept to take an even deeper look at wealthy, decadent youth in Los Angeles, exploiting the longer-form storytelling that TV – particularly with the looser restrictions of streaming – can offer.

Given that it's very early days for this one, there's no date for this one to hit screens yet.
