Adapting a Noël Coward play that has previously been brought to the screen by David Lean is no small endeavour, but it's one that director Ed Hall and writers Nick Moorcroft, Meg Leonard and Piers Ashworth are attempting with Blithe Spirit, and have been busy building their cast. The latest addition is Leslie Mann.

This new adaptation updates and re-imagines the play as the story of a bestselling crime novelist who has encountered some serious writer's block as he tries to bash out his first screenplay. Looking to gather some inspiration and get the creative wheels turning again, he invites an eccentric into his home, but gets more than he bargained for when she summons the spirit of his first wife (Mann will play her).

Mann joins a cast that already includes the likes of Dan Stevens, Judi Dench and Isla Fisher, with the team behind Fisherman's Friends producing. As for Mann, she'll next be seen in Motherless Brooklyn (due 29 November this year) and will be part of the voice cast for animated sequel The Croods 2, out 29 January 2021.
