Having paid her dues writing and co-producing the Pitch Perfect movies, Kay Cannon is making her directorial debut with a new comedy, The Pact, announced earlier this month. She's rounded up the first few actors for the movie, with Leslie Mann, John Cena and Ike Barinholtz all signing up.
The pitch for this one is relatively straightforward: three parents learn that they daughters have sworn a pact to lose their virginities on prom night. Cue typically panicked parents, and the grown-ups racing to try and stop the young women before it's too late.
Variety's story offers no details on who will be playing what in the films, though we can well see Mann and Cena as parents (and who would want to invoke the wrath of someone who looks like him?)
Despite the seemingly straightforward concept, this one has been through the writing wringer, with Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, Brian and Jim Kehoe and Eben Russell all taking a crack. We figure Cannon will have done a pass of her own.
Mann was last seen in How To Be Single and is starring opposite Robert De Niro in The Comedian. Cena, who has shown real comic talent in the likes of Trainwreck, will go for a more dramatic turn in Doug Liman's The Wall. And Barinholtz, who appeared in Suicide Squad and Bad Neighbours 2, recently joined his Squad director David Ayer's latest, Bright.
