You might think that an international title – in this case Thomas Vinterberg's Another Round – would set off a klaxon in Hollywood chambers when it wins an Oscar, producers and studios scrambling to set up an English-language remake. In this case, though, it's a lot more pedestrian, the film's awards run already triggering interest. Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way company has nabbed the rights to make a new version.
Whether he ends up actually starring remains to be seen – it'll depend on the script, the choice of director and his schedule – but he's certainly involved in developing it, alongside Endeavor Content and production company Makeready, with the latter pair stumping up the cash.
Another Round, which did indeed take home Best International Film at the Oscars on Sunday, follows Martin (Mads Mikkelsen), who learns there is an obscure philosophical theory that humans should have been born with a small amount of alcohol in our blood; that modest inebriation opens our minds to the world around us, diminishing problems and increasing creativity.
So Martin and three of his friends, all weary high school teachers, embark on a risky experiment to maintain a constant level of intoxication throughout the workday. Initial results are positive, but as the units are knocked back and stakes are raised, it becomes increasingly clear that some bold acts carry severe consequences.
Vinterberg will act as executive producer, and hopefully that means it might bottle - pun entirely intended and unapologised for – some of the magic of the original. But those in the UK who would rather watch the original will be able to from 2 July in a limited cinema run.
