You might think that between the Underworld franchise and his duties as producing director on madcap TV drama Sleepy Hollow, Len Wiseman would want a break from action with supernatural elements. You would be wrong, because he’s agreed to direct Black Chapter, which features just such a mix.

The Incredible Hulk/Suspect Zero writer Zak Penn is behind the script, which finds an FBI agent recruited for a top-secret military program in which spies learn paranormal abilities. It’s not as far-fetched as it might sound from that high concept pitch, since it’s inspired by real (and, in some cases rumoured) schemes from the past.

Black Chapter is a science fiction story that draws from our own history,” says Len Wiseman in a statement picked up by Deadline. “I’ve always been fascinated by the mysteries surrounding the CIA’s astral projection program during its MK-ULTRA era. What if those experiments had actually worked? Would we even know?”

Wiseman has Skydance Productions offering up some of the financing and co-producing the film, but there’s no word on whether he’ll make it his next project. He’s busy giving notes on the new season of Sleepy Hollow and has several other projects bubbling away in his development cauldron first.
