Len Wiseman To Direct Atlantis Rising

Clearly, Len Wiseman is keen to make sure that the 18-month (and growing) gap since he made Die Hard 4.0 doesn’t happen again anytime soon. The 35 year-old director recently signed on to direct the action thriller Motorcade, in which terrorists attack the President’s car. But today he showed that he is, truly, a Wiseman (sorry) by lining up another movie that should be ready to go once Motorcade rolls to a halt.

And that movie is Atlantis Rising, a mega-budget sci-fi thriller based on, like approximately 82% of all new Hollywood output, a comic book series.

The Platinum Studios title, written by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, tells the epic tale of what the world’s militaries find when they investigate a series of deep-sea earthquakes. To cut a long story short, they find the lost kingdom of Atlantis… and the locals aren’t very friendly. Cue all-out war.

Cool premise – but this sounds like it could be prohibitively expensive. One of the reasons why Marvel has struggled to bring the story of Namor, the Sub-Mariner to the big-screen is the cost of all that lovely CG water. Throw that in here, along with vast armies, big explosions and whatnot, and DreamWorks may have one almighty big bill on their hands. Don’t they know there’s a recession on?

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman will produce the movie for DreamWorks, along with Rosenberg. No word on writers yet. We imagine Orci and Kurtzman are too busy, but we'll keep you posted...
