As The Lego Batman Movie prepares to hit this year's San Diego Comic-Con during the Warner Bros. panel, it's time to see some new pictures from the movie. And, courtesy of USA Today, that's exactly what we get, with Zach Galifianakis' Joker grinning out from the top of the page.
We've already met Batman, of course, voiced by Will Arnett. He popped up in The Lego Movie and is now the focus of his own film, which will riff on his insecurities, his orphan status and his love of gadgets. Plus just the slightest whiff of insufferable arrogance. And then there's his nemesis.
"The Joker sees himself on the same level as Batman, a peer, at the top of the game," director Chris McKay tells the paper. "But Batman says that’s not the case, which sends Joker into a spiral trying to prove to Batman that he is indeed the greatest enemy."
McKay and the film's producers have said that it'll take liberally from Batman stories through the years in all sorts of mediums, so it makes sense for the Clown Prince Of Crime to show up, alongside Harley Quinn (who you can spot driving the Joker's car below.)
But he's not the only problem in Batman's life in this new outing. There's also Robin (voiced to chipper effect by Michael Cera), who Bruce Wayne accidentally adopts at a charity auction. "Lego Batman is About A Boy as directed by Michael Mann," McKay says. "This is a single guy who suddenly has a kid literally drop into his world." Suffice to say, they don't bond well initially. But they'll need to eventually, with a number of Batman's famous villains also due to pop up. For more on the movie and a couple of additional pictures, visit USA Today's site.
Given its Comic-Con presence in Hall H set for Saturday and now these images, we predict a new Lego Batman Movie trailer won't be too far behind. The movie itself will be out on February 10 next year.
