Master Swords up, Zelda fans. It’s been a little while since Nintendo announced that it was planning a live-action film based on The Legend Of Zelda, news that caused excitement and anxiety alike. Because, of course a live-action Zelda movie could be excellent – with plenty of cinematic potential in sword-swinging, Bokoblin-bashing action set in the gently gorgeous world of Hyrule. But, the pressure is on for Zelda to be done right, given its quite-literally-legendary status – an almightily high bar. Now, nearly two years on from the film’s announcement, we have a prospective release date.

As revealed by Nintendo on its Nintendo Today app, The Legend Of Zelda movie is slated for release on 26 March 2027 – that’s almost two years to the day from now, which indicates that development has been moving smoothly. The film has Wes Ball as its director, previously behind last year’s Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes, and is coming from Sony Pictures. Beyond that, details are unknown – but with two years until release, it likely won’t be too long before cameras begin rolling. Expect casting rumours for Link and Zelda to spark up soon.

In the meantime, those two years should be enough time to uncover most of the secrets of Hyrule on a Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom play-through. Adventure awaits.
