Not content with two successful films and a hit musical (not to mention a thousand injuries from people attempting the Bend and Snap), the Legally Blonde franchise is coming back to life on the big screen, with Reese Witherspoon making a deal to return.
While we've more recently been seeing her more dramatic side in the likes of Big Little Lies, a new Blonde film – 17 years after the original, and 15 since follow-up Red, White & Blonde will find Witherspoon back in her fluffy yet canny role as Elle Woods, who stormed Harvard and then worked in Washington DC.
According to _Deadline_m the aim is reunite original Blonde writers Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah for a story that is currently under wraps but that will channel female empowerment at the time when the message is needed more than ever. Marc Platt is also back to produce, with Witherspoon even more of a driving force behind the scenes this time. With all of those elements falling into place, the team and studio backers MGM are now looking for a director.
