There was both good news and bad news for fans of the Legally Blonde franchise this week. On the positive front, the cast, including star Reese Witherspoon, reunited for a chatty, fun political fundraiser on YouTube that you can find at the bottom of the page for your viewing needs. As for the bad? The third film has been pushed back a year, with a May 2022 release date on the books in the States, as tweeted by studio MGM.
Exactly what the third movie will be about is anyone's guess outside of the people making it at this point. Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor nabbed deals to work on a fresh draft of the script in May, but things have been quiet – for obvious, world-afflicted reasons – since then. Speculation is rife that, given that she spent time working in politics for the second film, the third could see Witherspoon's Elle Woods eyeing a run for office... President Elle, anyone?
There's no word on a director or who might return from the ensembles of the first two films, but you know that Bruiser the chihuahua is already on the phone to his agent, negotiating a hefty contract.
