Still enjoying the success of his latest, The Butler, Lee Daniels is considering what to make next. A new project he’s adding to the list is an unconventional action movie, and he wants Alex Pettyfer – who had a small role in Daniels' film – to star.
The film doesn’t have a title yet, but it does have an intriguing spin on the usual guns-n-ammo characters. If you don’t want to know what that is (because Daniels himself sees it as a twist, despite giving the game away in the quote below) don’t read on further than this paragraph.
Daniels is describing the film to Out Magazine as a “gay Mr. And Mrs. Smith, with the two good-looking guys as the action heroes. But we don’t find out they’re gay until the end of the movie.” Um... I think we just did find that out, Lee.
Though it sounds like it could be a tough sell, Daniels seems confident: “I don’t think I’m going to have a problem now. I made a $100 million for The Butler. I’m in a rare group. So this is something I feel good about.” We'll see if he still feels good once the film enters development, but surely the time is right.
