The Old Testament is having a moment. Variety reports that a new ten-part Ten Commandments miniseries, commissioned by cable network WGN America, has joined the Exoduses** **and Noahs of the world to bring a little divinity into our lives.

The scripted series will boast a distinguished roster of directors, including Lee Daniels, Gus Van Sant, Jim Sheridan, Wes Craven and Michael Cera. Before embarking on a game of One Of Those Things Is Not Like The Others, it's worth pointing out that Cera has directed a clutch of shorts and has biblical previous with Harold Ramis comedy Year One. He's arguably Hollywood's leading authority on ox-coverting.

The contemporary-set biblishingle will be overseen by producers Bruce Cohen and Bob Weinstein, with each episode focusing on a different story and commandment - think of the Three Colours trilogy model. The pair want the directors to bring a personal stamp to their episode. “Each of these directors is acclaimed for their own unique brand of style and genre, so it’s clear that we can expect ten wildly different episodes from this series,” explained Weinstein.

The Ten Commandments miniseries will run over ten nights, with the other five directors still to be announced.
