Oliver Stone has pulled ahead of Dino De Laurentis and Martin Scorsese in the race to bring the story of Alexander The Great to the big screen, with news today that not only has he secured his leading man, but he's also due to begin filming in October. Stone has signed Aussie star Heath Ledger in the lead role, and according to Variety, is on schedule to begin the shoot for Alexander in India this Autumn. That puts him ahead of Mel Gibson's production which will be shown on TV in 2004, Dino De Laurentiis - who's still searching for a director while his first choice Ridley Scott decides on a project - and Martin Scorsese who's on board to shoot a script by Peter 'Jurassic Park III' Buchman and Christopher 'Usual Suspects' McQuarrie.
