Work is gearing back up again on the fourth Matrix movie, with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss returning. But one of the main triumvirate from the original trilogy is apparently not joining them: Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus. And he's now explaining more.

"I have not been invited. Maybe that will make me write another play. I wish them well. I hope it’s great," Fishburne told New York Magazine (as covered by The Wrap). "It is probably the role that I’ll be best remembered for, which is great; it’s not the only thing I’ll be remembered for, which is better," the actor adds of Morpheus. "What I get with him is I’ve got Darth Vader in this hand, and I’ve got Obi-Wan in that hand. I’ve got Bruce Lee, I’ve got Muhammad Ali shuffled in there, and I’ve got kung fu."

Which makes it sounds like he bears no ill will towards Lana Wachowski, who has co-written and is making the new movie. And then, of course, you enter the rumoursphere of wondering whether he's covering for an actual return, while trying to keep the surprise...

The fourth Matrix film is scheduled to arrive in April 2022.
