It’s a dangerous thing to release any information on April 1, but we’re pretty certain a standard casting announcement about William H. Macy’s first film as director is unlikely to be a joke. Unless he has Katharine Hepburn’s ghost... But no – Macy is in fact just hiring Laurence Fishburne, Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin and Selena Gomez for Rudderless.
Macy, who has directed TV movies in the past, is switching to features for the drama. The film will focus on a grieving father falling into a downward spiral after the death of his son.
Then he discovers a box of music that the lad wrote and starts to heal himself by forming a band with friends.
You won’t be surprised to learn that Macy will be popping up on screen alongside real-life wife Felicity Huffman. He starts shooting in Oklahoma later this month, working from a script by Casey Twenter and Jeff Robinson.
Fishburne was last seen in Contagion and is part of the sprawling Man Of Steel cast. He’s also worked on action thriller The Colony. Crudup cropped up in The Watch and has** Blood Ties** set for release next. Yelchin is back as Pavel Chekov in Star Trek Into Darkness, which hits screens on May 9. Gomez is one of the Spring Breakers (on screen later this week) and has Behaving Badly and Getaway making their way through post-production.
