Having dialed in the latest adaptation of Little Women as her follow-up to Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig is busy in pre-production on the film. She also has Laura Dern in talks to join what is already a stacked cast.

The likes of Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Florence Pugh, James Norton and Lady Bird alumni Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet are all in the ensemble for this one, which once again brings Louisa May Alcott's story of the March sisters in Civil War-era Massachusetts as they figure out life, love, growing up and Christmas without their father.

Nothing has been announced about Dern's role, though we could see her playing the March girls' mother, Margaret. Gerwig had been hired to write the script for the new version, and decided to tackle the film as her next directorial job. She should be shooting this year.

Dern will be seen in the second season of Big Little Lies (which will also feature Streep), with the series returning next year. She'll also be a part of true-life tale JT Leroy and is in the cast for Noah Baumbach's latest, untiled film.
