Empire Online cornered British actress Emily Watson at this morning's launch for the London Film Festival to ask what she's been up to lately. One of the most interesting projects has to be Sphere director Kurt Wimmer's Equilibrium. 'It's a futuristic thriller, set in a world where everybody's on this drug which makes everybody peaceful, harmonious and happy,' Emily explained. 'I'm in the resistance movement to try and overthrow the system. That's with Christian Bale - who's a dreamboat and it was fun. I think it's coming out some time next year.' The second project in the bag is the untitled Paul Thomas Anderson film - so does it have a name we can call it yet? 'It kind of does have a title,' she told us, 'but it's not official yet, so I don't think I can say. Paul's very, very strict about letting things out of the bag.' So is there anything she can tell us? 'Well I'm the lead role, and it's kind of a comedy but only as Paul Thomas Anderson could possibly tell it.' On another matter entirely, Watson has clear views about the impending Equity actors' strike. 'I hope for the sake of the industry that it's not going to happen,' she said. 'there is an imbalance and it's clearly something that does have to be be addressed, but I think we have to be careful. This industry and the financing of it is so fragile that if we all go out on strike we could kill a lot of things off that are worth supporting.'
