Three months on from the first promo, and hot on the heels of a handsome set of new posters, the Coen Brothers' latest Hail, Caesar! has just launched a new trailer. One of their more knockabout projects, following the deadpan Inside Llewyn Davis, this one's a classic-era Hollywood kidnap caper. Trailer One was a more conventional affair - for a given value of conventional. This one, bravely, fixates on some difficulty with a line-reading in the film within the film. Listen, it's complicated...
Set during one of the golden ages of the big studio system, the film is focused on private detective turned movie company fixer Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin), who tracks down and covers up scandals among contracted players and directors. His current case involves him digging into the mysterious disappearance of a big star Baird Whitlock (George Clooney) mid-way through a shoot. This is bad for movie stars everywhere.
Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Clancy Brown, Christopher Lambert, Robert Picardo and Dolph Lundgren (no, really) are among the rest of the ridiculous cast with Clooney and Brolin; and Hail Caesar! is out in the UK on February 26. For much more on the Coens, keep an eye out for the next issue of Empire, published later this month.
