As the various big summer blockbusters jockey for our attention like excitable goats at a petting zoo, their attendant marketing campaigns shift and evolve over time. While some – such as the Avengers – go for more straightforward posters/trailers/clips etc., others prefer to mix that with a viral approach. Such is the case with The Dark Knight Rises, which is planning to release a new trailer along with the US launch of Marvel’s movie this weekend and has a new viral campaign up and running.
First set up at the official site, the challenge is another scavenger hunt of sorts, as with the previous Batventure. Warners has put graffiti up around the world, which we must photograph and submit to the site. The reward for spotting one of the tags (seen below) is frames from the new trailer. This, we suppose is the next logical step past teasers for trailers…
There’s a list of addresses where the tags can be found on the site, along with mocked up arrest warrant papers and other documents relating to the vigilante known only as The Batman. Of course, the last time we saw the Caped Crusader, he was indeed on the run, blamed for the death of Harvey Dent and shouldering responsibility for the man’s actual crimes.
Feel free to go and pore over the frames revealed so far…
The Dark Knight Rises is out on July 20.
