Theron has been aiming to bring this one to the screen for a couple of years, after picking up the rights to Antony Johnston and Sam Hart's graphic novel The Coldest City. With Kurt Johnstad on adaptation duty, the retitled Atomic Blonde finds her as Agent Lorraine Broughton, a skilled intelligence operative called into action when an undercover MI6 spy is killed in 1989, just before the fall of the Berlin Wall. She has to track down a list he was smuggling to the West in order to prevent her and her colleagues becoming endangered by the release of crucial information. And the mission becomes a deadly game of double-crossing agents and global agendas.
Not knowing who she can trust, she teams up with deep cover agent David Percival (James McAvoy) to figure out who knows what and her next move. With John Wick veteran David Leitch wrangling the visuals and the violence, Atomic Blonde also features John Goodman, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan and Sofia Boutella. The movie arrives on 9 August.
