Some movies hit us with their poster and trailer all at once, and damn the risk of our heads exploding with excitement. Not Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new film, The Last Stand. The Austrian Oak’s latest blast of action has already released the poster online and is now following up with the first trailer, which you can see over at Apple.
With** I Saw The Devil** director Kim Jee-Woon calling the shots, The Last Stand finds Arnie as Sheriff Ray Owens. He left the tough world of the LAPD narcotics division after a bungled operation left officers dead.
Nowadays, he’s happier letting the last few years of his career tick away as the lawman for sleepy border town Summerton Junction, where he can enjoy a peaceful existence of good natured banter with the locals.
But then his quiet life is shattered when drug kingpin Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega) escapes an FBI prisoner convoy and speeds for the border with heavily armed support. Agent John Bannister (Forest Whitaker) alerts Owens that he and his town are likely to be Cortez’ target as he tries to cross into Mexico. And while Sheriff Owens doesn’t exactly have the best team backing him up, he’s sure as hell not going to let some criminal put everyone in danger…
This one, unsurprisingly, has an Expendables vibe to it, with lots of gags about Arnie looking old, and then clearly still able to kick some ass.
The Last Stand is out on January 25 next year.
