Last Night For Keira Knightley

Relief for Keira Knightley!

Wor Keira – as we’ve suddenly, completely arbitrarily decided to call her, despite the fact that she’s not from Newcastle – has spent her last 290 movies or so stuffed into period costume, whether it be the two Pirates sequels, or The Duchess, or The Edge Of Love, or Atonement.

But at long, long last, Wor Keira has signed on to star in a movie that will require her to don clothes purchased from M&S, and not the British Museum.

Last Night is the flick in question, and Knightley has signed on to join an excellent cast including Eva Mendes, Sam Worthington and Guilluame Canet.

The story revolves around a married couple who are spending a night apart while hubby goes on a business trip with a woman that he’s attracted to. But, just when you thought the plot couldn’t get any thicker, it does! With the revelation that while hubby is deciding whether or not to employ the old ‘what goes on tour, stays on tour’ mindset, that wifey has met a past love and may well be the mouse that plays while the cat is away! This plot isn’t just thick – it’s congealed!

We’re not yet sure who’s who in the couple shake-up, but our personal preference would be to pair Knightley with Canet as the married couple, while Mendes can play the other woman and Worthington – getting his first chance to impress in a film that doesn’t involve guns, aliens, robots or Christian Bale shouting since he was cast in Avatar and Terminator Salvation – the past love of Knightley’s potential character.

Or maybe we’ve got it all wrong and Mendes is the wife, Wor Keira is the other woman, Worthington is the husband and Canet is the mysterious old flame. All will be revealed in time.

What we do know, though, is that the wonderfully-named Massy Tadjedin will be making her directorial debut with the movie, which she also wrote. Tadjedin also wrote the drama, Wednesday, which Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is planning to direct.

Filming starts next month in New York. Gaumont is the company backing the project to the tune of mucho Euros.
