Picks up five Golden Raspberries

Last Airbender "Wins" At The Razzies

They’re largely lambasted these days as a joke that has been allowed to carry on way past its natural lifetime, but the Golden Raspberry Awards – now in their 31st year – have nonetheless become something of a staple of the awards season. And this year, The Last Airbender** was the big, er, favourite, notching up five Razzies: Worst Picture, Worst Director for M Night Shyamalan, Worst Screenplay, Worst Supporting Actor (Jackson Rathbone, who was skewered for his work in this and Twilight: Eclipse) and Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3D.

If Airbender had any competition, it was from the equally critically roasted Sex and the City 2, which nabbed Worst Sequel, Worst Screen Ensemble (for the entire cast, apparently) and Worst Actress (which, in a supreme example of redundancy given the other gong, was jointly handed to the four leads).

Ashton Kutcher loped off with Worst Actor for his performances in Valentine’s Day and Killers, while Jessica Alba scooped her first Worst Actress for the combo of Little Fockers (yes), Valentine’s Day (we almost forgot she was in that one), Machete (hhm… less plausible, even with the sillier bits) and The Killer Inside Me (have to disagree there).

It’s not been made public whether anyone turned up to accept their “award,” unlike Sandra Bullock, who got into the spirit of things last year and then walking away with an Oscar the following night…
