If you were wondering why Gina Prince-Bythewood opted not to return for the sequel to Netflix's The Old Guard, it's because she'd already lined up an exciting new gig, making The Woman King with Viola Davis starring. The movie has now added Captain Marvel's Lashana Lynch.
The film, written by the director and Dana Stevens, is an historical epic inspired by true events that took place in the Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states of Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries. The story follows Nanisca (Davis), general of the all-female military unit, and Nawi (The Underground Railroad's Thuso Mbedu), an ambitious recruit, who together fought enemies who violated their honor, enslaved their people and threatened to destroy everything they’ve lived for.
Lynch's character hasn't been revealed yet, but we're hoping she gets a chance to kick more ass. Talking of, she'll finally be seen in the latest Bond outing, No Time To Die, which is currently still on its planned date of 30 September in the UK.
