Lars Von Trier Eyes Nymphomaniac

His "psychological disaster movie" Melancholia is complete and awaiting release, so Lars Von Trier is now considering his next project, which may, if we're lucky, be **The Nymphomaniac{ =nofollow}.

The film was one of two that Von Trier had been musing on, but the director's business partner Peter Aalbaek Jensen apparently suggested that The Nymphomaniac might be more saleable than Dirt in Bedsores.

Is this a joke? Very possibly, knowing that scamp Von Trier. But then again, neither film exactly sounds unlikely either. We can only imagine what Dirt in Bedsores might be, but Von Trier describes The Nymphomaniac as "a film about a woman's erotic birth; a woman who discovers her eroticism."

Given what actresses are generally put through on Von Trier projects (ask Nicole Kidman or Bjork) it'd be the brave lady who signed up for this. He does seem to be having a productive relationship with Charlotte Gainsbourg though, who's we think is the first woman ever to turn out for him twice* (in Antichrist and Melancholia). Maybe this could be the third of his Gainsbourg trilogy.

Melancholia concerns two sisters' (Gainsbourg and Kirsten Dunst) differing coping strategies for armageddon, after it's revealed the Earth is about to be crushed by a just-appeared new planet. No really, it does. It'll debut at this year's Cannes festival, and it's out in the UK on July 1.

*Okay, Chloe Sevigny is in Dogville and Manderlay, but not as the lead.
