Essentially, we know very little about Rian Johnson’s next film. Before the Star Wars: The Last Jedi director gets truly stuck into his new spin-off trilogy, he’s prepping an original whodunnit murder mystery to shoot in the very near future, once again teaming up with his regular producing partner Ram Bergman. As intriguing as that basic pitch is, it’s not much to go on. What is exciting, though, is the incredible cast that Johnson is pulling together for this one in the run-up to production. Already we know that Daniel Craig is signed on, with a bit of freed-up time thanks to the Bond 25 production shift, and Captain America himself, Chris Evans, is on board too.
Now we’ve got the latest addition to the cast: Lakeith Stanfield. Between his recurring role in Donald Glover’s Atlanta, his break-out turn in Get Out, and his lead in Boots Riley’s Sorry To Bother You (which is finally getting a UK release in December), Stanfield has a knack for picking great roles in smart projects. According to Deadline, Stanfield and Craig will play detectives in Knives Out. Plus, Variety is reporting another major cast addition currently in the works, with Michael Shannon 'in talks' to join the production.
The film is due to shoot this November, and is likely to emerge in late 2019. Following that, Johnson will move ahead on his own Star Wars trilogy, which will be unconnected from the main Skywalker saga.
