Damien Chazelle recently picked up several Oscars (including becoming the youngest Best Director winner) for La La Land, and he's already preparing to reunite with leading man Ryan Gosling for First Man. Yet he's also – like many of his peers – interested in TV and is now attached to direct a musical drama called The Eddy.
This Is England '88 and The Fades' Jack Thorne is behind the script for the new potential show, which is set in modern-day multicultural Paris and follows the lives, loves and tunes of a club, the owner, its house band and the city around them. Somehow Chazelle just can't escape Paris; let's hope he doesn't impulsively jump into the Seine.
With Six Feet Under producer Alan Poul and songwriter Glen Ballard attached, the addition of Chazelle means this is one that networks and streaming services will take a lot of interest in. And it's just the latest word of a director heading to TV, following the likes of Moonlight's Barry Jenkins and American Hustle's David O. Russell.
As for First Man, the biopic of Neil Armstrong is scheduled to arrive in the States in October next year.
