Curiouser and curiouser… Or should we say, Furiouser and Furiouser? Because word has arrived that Kurt Russell is in negotiations to join Fast & Furious 7,which is shaping up to have an interesting cast beyond the regular gang.
According to Variety, Russell has been approached to play an undisclosed role that was first offered to Denzel Washington. Nothing has been revealed about what he’ll be doing in the film, but in our dark little hearts, we sort of hope it’s a riff on car-crazy, homicidal loon Stuntman Mike from Death Proof. Still, having the veteran actor in the film is a big positive in our book whatever he ends up doing.
So far we know that Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker and Tyrese Gibson are the veterans confirmed to return (the rest of the gang – at least, those who survived the sixth film – are sure to be close behind) and Jason Statham is the villain tracking them down to avenge the death of his brother (Luke Evans’ character). UFC fighter Ronda Rousey and Ong Bak** man Tony Jaa have also been added.
With James Wan taking over directing duties, the film is headed back to the franchise’s LA roots (though with some travel to the Far East likely) as the crew find themselves free men and women and just the small matter of Ian Shaw (The Stath) to threaten their happy days.
Set to start filming almost immediately,** Fast & Furious 7** will race to our screens on July 25 next year.
