Cryptocurrency has become a hot topic in recent years, with Bitcoin and the like catching public attention. So naturally, the concept is slipping into movies. Indie thriller Crypto has just started shooting, with Kurt Russell, Alexis Bledel, Beau Knapp, Luke Hemsworth, Jeremie Harris and Vincent Kartheiser.

With a script by The Signal's Carlyle Eubank and David Frigerio (itself based on a story by Jeffrey Ingber), the movie has John Stalberg Jr. directing. Crypto finds Knapp playing an anti-money laundering agent investigating corruption and fraud in his remote New York hometown, where his father (Russell) and brother (Hemsworth) are trying to maintain the family farm in a shifting economic landscape.

There, he comes entangled in a criminal underworld populated by a mysterious art dealer (Bledel), a crypto-currency enthusiast who dabbles as a cyber sleuth (Harris) and a corrupt accountant with shady bosses (Kartheiser).

“I am overjoyed to be working with such an incredible cast to bring this timely, thrilling story to life,” Stalberg tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Beau is incredibly talented, and seeing him bring this character to life opposite talent like Alexis, Kurt, Luke, Jeremie and Vincent has been a dream come true." He's rolling the cameras now in New York.
