Hobbs And Shaw’s David Leitch Directing Kung Fu Movie

David Leitch; Kung Fu

1970's TV drama Kung Fu is mostly known for two things – the controversial choice of David Carradine to play a Shaolin monk who wanders the old west helping the downtrodden (a concept and role that Bruce Lee had originally pitched, and had since become the show Warrior) – and the kicking of ass by the otherwise pacifist main character. Universal has picked up the rights and has David Leitch ready to direct a film based on the show's idea.

Leitch has plenty of experience bringing fight scenes to life in films such as Atomic Blonde and the first John Wick outing, and worked for years as a stuntman and stunt co-ordinator before that. The studio and Leitch will be looking for a writer, so this one will be sitting lower down on his To-Do list for now. Which, coincidentally includes a remake of one of Lee's most iconic films, Enter The Dragon, at Warner Bros. Two words for all involved in the new Kung Fu – diverse casting.__

It's not the only Kung Fu project walking the tricky path to remake status in Hollywood – US network The CW has its own, female-centric new TV version in the works.
