While lots of movies are announced as making the transition from the screen to stage and becoming musicals, only a few ever make it out of the developmental period. Universal's theatre arm at least has a solid name to announce as it works on a Death Becomes Her musical – Kristin Chenoweth is attached to star.

The show would adapt Robert Zemeckis' 1992 dark satire, which starred Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn and Bruce Willis. Chenoweth would take over the part played in the movie by Streep, that of narcissistic, manipulative actress Madeline Ashton. Obsessed with staying young and beautiful, she purchases a strange potion purporting to promise eternal life, which comes with some very strange side effects. You can see what they mean from the trailer below...

Right now, the musical is at a very early stage, with no other creative people announced just yet. But Chenoweth's presence should hopefully make this one stick on its path.
